Ladies and gentlemen, I am a (tempted to say proud but I don’t want to prematurely say it yet) owner of a 4GB iPhone.

7:37a: Going to try out my iPhone. Be back soon.

7:31a: As I was ready to explain my situation to the live rep, an email came through from AT&T saying “Activation Complete.” Finally

7:30a: Finally got someone on the phone and asked to be transferred to Customer Service (drats, I didn’t ask for the number, I shoudl have!)

7:15a: Trying a different number for the 4th time. Still no luck. Too many automated messages.

7:10a: Getting a live customer rep is really difficult and painful with AT&T. Definitely not great Customer Service.

7:05a: Found the number off AT&T website (www.att.com/wireless) and called Customer Service. They said they were closed and would open at 9a. I tried a different number and not having any luck. The automated message kept on asking me for my AT&T Wireless Number when I don’t have one because I am in the middle of processing activation. Once the activation is complete, they will give me a phone number. Still trying to get a live person.

7:04a: Typing the Taylor Report and still no email from AT&T. I’m going to give them a call and inquire why it’s taking forever.

6:00a: No email from AT&T.

4:30a: No email from AT&T.

3:00a: No email from AT&T.

12:10a: No email from AT&T.

June 30, 2007

10:24p: A new screen came up saying my iPhone still needs more time for activation. I received an email from iTunes saying “AT&T is now processing your activation. You will receive an email confirmation once your activation is complete.”

10:23p: Processing activation…

10:22p: Processing activation…

10:21p: Processing activation…

10:20p: After feeding my personal information, including my Social Security Number (that was needed to allow AT&T to do a credit check on me — no, I’m not a criminal, thank you), my iPhone was ready for activation. I ordered the $59.99 plan. The screen said it would take three minutes.

10:15p: My MacBook Pro is installed with all the necessary upgrades to work with the iPhone. Plugged my iPhone in and followed iTunes’ onscreen instructions to activate the iPhone.

10:05p: Plugged the iPhone to my MacBook Pro. It said I need to upgrade my OS to 10.4.10 and intsall the latest iTunes. Downloaded and installed them through Software Update.

10:00p: Got home after a quick dinner.

9:08p: The transaction to purchase the iPhone with film protector set and case.

9:01p: An Apple representative came up to me if I wanted help. I said, I’d like the iPhone. She asked, “4 or 8?” I guestured, “4.”

9:00p: Went inside the Apple Store and it was definitely packed, especially with people swarming around the iPhone island like June bugs.

8:30p: Drove to Arden Fair Mall to the Apple Store.

Congratulation getting iphone. When I go thur the activation it took me 5 mins to process. Within few mins got email from AT&T. I am happy how they respond to me. Maybe it getting real real busy right now.

I starting to become comfortable with iphone. I m still feel clumsy with keyboard. I really love my iphone.

8. csano says June 30, 2007

It sounds like you have to have a Mac in order to activate your iPhone. Is this accurate?

iPhones can be activated on PC’s with iTunes for Windows version 7.3. All you need is an iTunes account to do this.

10. David Geeslin says June 30, 2007

Nope, you can have PC and download latest iTunes (7.3) and it will activate. Drooling now? Smile.

Ok, here is the results of my decision whether to become a proud owner of this beautiful and totally awesome iPhone… and to answer the question whether it is fully Deaf-friendly phone.

I brought it last night around 11 pm (EST) and it took me 39 minutes for it to become activated.

Almost all day long, I have been testing this device by asking people to email me and sms me. decided to use two methods: focus on iPhone and look for this message from someone and do something distracted so I was not aware of iPhone’s vibration. First test with method #1 always got my attention and be able to reply. Second method, I feel the vibration once per fifteen emails/SMS send to me (vibration does happen everytime, but it was so mild that I am not awared of this). As you know, most people would set up level of volume of their phone ringing so they may be aware of “ringing”. This vibration only give one level. In that case, iPhone failed to meet my need.

I truly hope that Apple or someone who can write script for this iPhone to vibrate more frequently or intense and that the email function as Blackberry “enterprise” where email is being checked every minute. Once that has been addressed, I will hop in my car and dash immediately to Apple store and get myself one. Smile.

ebay in #3 post is insane!

Apparently, a few iPhone customers are experiencing delays in the activation of their service: http://tinyurl.com/yqh9yk

How about we start voicing the AT+T and Apple for Text Accessibility Plan? I’m very curious myself if will the T.A.P cover iPhone? We need to make this happen, really. :/

15. Tayler says July 1, 2007

iChat for iPhone is coming soon.

“A true instant messaging client described as a mobile version of iChat, will arrive “very, very soon” and certainly before Leopard.”

16. Roger Vass says July 1, 2007

I knew it and told people the ichat will release within three weeks from now my wild guess. Because one of my friend is a developer for MacOS X and told me saw ichat on iphone and its awesome! The reason they couldnt release ichat on iphone due to trouble with wireless kept switching from EDGE to WiFi. That cause ichat disconnecting and reconnected not like tmobile IM. Apple wanted to release iPhone now and improving this before 10. 5 thats what i suspected.

check Instant Message on iPhone

18. Dustin Williams says July 2, 2007

Fortunately, I have had a chance to test the iPhone at the Apple Store, Third Street Promenade — I literally was tempted to shoplift but I love Apple too much to do that. :P

I agree with everyone here with the shortcomings of the iPhone — namely iChat (but, fortunately, as Tayler has mentioned, it is coming. (Yay!)). Not only that, I want to see more third-party stuff coming to it… widgets and the like.

Otherwise, the iPhone has bought me. Too bad I’m broke… donations, anyone? :D

#17 “Instant Message” that look same act by Aim Express
I rather wait until new release 10.5 come with chat without “i” video in Oct or Nov

24. Aaron Stribling says July 2, 2007

One question: How will it be possible to watch and chat similar on video iChat because the camera is on the back and the screen is on the front. Hopefully the 2nd rev iPhone will be release with the camera on the front or yet better with two cameras (1 on back & 1 on front).

I’m hoping at&t will buy a Cellular ONE (a cellphone company) in Alaska…. On the other hand, isn’t monopolizing a good thing? *wink-smile*
