Netflix Streaming adds Subtitles

Whoa. Netflix just announced yesterday that they have enabled captions/subtitles for about 100 titles via their streaming service. Netflix says more are coming. Hearsay is that it also works on the iPad via the Netflix app. We’ll have to investigate. Now we have an alternative to iTunes’ captioning.

Hey folks!

Thanks for alerting us about this. It is a great news. How can I be able to find 100 titles that have captions? Is there a way to find a needle in the haystack?

Amy, I’m not sure how, either. We’re still trying to learn more – but from what I have heard, you have to click on the film’s title to see if it’s CC’d. Clicking on the picture won’t give you that info. It’ll prob be like the first days of iTunes CC’ing – we had to wait until Apple set up a search checkbox to find all CC’d movies. See n see. :)

I joined Netflix after few months of boycotting, and yes, using my iMac computer, it shows captions. I chose to see Lost, Pilot Episode Part 1, and the captions are very nice on Silverlight program. I also have iPad,and I have downloaded Netflix application, and tried to view the same TV show. There is no captions because of a different video player, not Silverlight.

Another barrier…

I’ve read a bunch of comments and complaints about Netflix not providing a list of the CC streaming videos. So, we’re an enterprising group…why don’t we start one of our own? Start a thread “Netflix CC”, and if you see something with CC add it to the list. We can make our own resource. If all the deaf/hearing impaired viewers added what they found we would be well on our way.

Great idea. You can use the comments section on this article to start. Once you have enough, you can set up your own shared Google Spreadsheet for collaborative editing.

Good luck!
