Roger Vass, Jr., who is known for his superb performance as a storyteller for Mösdeux’s Vital Signs, is going to start standing in a line tomorrow morning at 6:00am. He will stand in the line for 12 hours before getting his hands on his iPhone.
While waiting in the line, he wants to draft up a poster to deliver a message to Steve Jobs. The purpose of the message is to let him know that he is Deaf and even when the iPhone doesn’t come with iChat or built-in closed captioning, he is maintaining his Apple loyalty.
Here is his message and he would like to trim it down to just FEW words with a strong message. Can everybody here on DMO help him trim down the message and word it better:
“Hey Steve Jobs
Although I am Deaf and loyal to Apple since 1978. I am eager to get the iPhone. My primary communication tool is using iChat to communicate with my loved ones and friends. Additionally, closed caption isn’t available for me to enjoy movies? I am asking you to seriously consider those features for the iPhone. Thank you.”
Too wordy for a poster and can we trim it down to like 10 words?
Ten words? Mmmm
“DEAF customer since 1978. Please add closed captions to iPhone!”
If you don’t mind few more words, try this
“Your loyal DEAF customer since 1978. Please add closed captions to iPhone for movies!”
Post the message on http://www.slashdot.org and someone will deliver the message to Steve Jobs.
You can say…
“Hey Steve Jobs
I am Deaf and loyal to Apple since 1978.
Deaf + iChat/Closed captioned in QT = think different!
Thank you”
Hey buddy! Roger – Congrats for going there! I am delighted to know you are grabbing that iphone! =)
Your words for the poster can be like this!
Hey Mac! Me faithful user since 1978! Is it cool?
Hurry back home so we can chat over cold beer! =)
Leopard version will have closed caption. Next version iPhone will have ichat feature since AT&T is implementing upgraded network system. Don’t forget…iSight on iPhone will be featured, too. I would stay on the line and let them pass me by for one year from now to get the next version iPhone, eh.
I think it is great idea. I can’t think of a short message. So far I like these comment makers’ suggestions. Please keep us posted how it goes with Roger Vess at Apple. :o) Thank you, Roger, for taking this action go further. You rock..
Smile.. Aidan

Yo Roger Vass! Out of curiousity, ur iphone supports vibration from calling? I am not suprised if Apple, inc might not realize about closed caption and aim, yahoo & msn instant messgeners (ichat). Nice to see your shoot film at the mall! Long time no see you since we were at rochy… :)

Hi Roger,
I absolutely agree with your point and suggest the following:
“Mr Jobs, The Iphone will gain greater market share by adding features that assist in communication and entertainment for the deaf/hard-of-hearing communities. Namely closed-captioning for movies and Ichat. The baby boomers have driven our economy since 1964 and are now retiring at over 10,000 per day. Many of those baby boomers are tech savvy but are also losing their hearing. Addressing the needs of both communities will undoubtedly put Apple technology at the forefront of the baby boomer wave, as well as generating fantastic publicity and increased sales when touted as being deaf-friendly.”
Roger-Feel free to contact me. I develop deaf-friendly companies for a living. Jason S
Sorry, comments are closed.

Because iChat is being requested by everyone, I think we should focus on captioning.
Which store will Roger be standing at? St. Louis isn’t going to get enough publicity to reach Jobs’ desk. 5th Ave or Stockton Street is probably best. Sitting next to Gary Packer is even better. :D
“Don’t forget the deaf–caption iTunes movies”
“Without captions, I can’t enjoy Ratatouille on my iPhone”
“Imagine watching videos on the iPhone without sound. Captions now!”
